Pickup is quick when everything is ready. Work through this the day before.
Paperwork
- Locate the title and confirm the name on it matches the donor
- Have your donation reference details handy
- Complete any signature or release fields exactly as instructed
Empty the vehicle
Check the glovebox, console, door pockets, under the seats, the trunk and any spare-tire well. Toll transponders, garage remotes, chargers and documents are the usual forgotten items.
Plates and registration
States differ: some require you to remove and return plates, others transfer them with the vehicle. Check your DMV's guidance before pickup day.
Keys and access
Leave the keys where agreed, and make sure the tow truck can physically reach the vehicle — unblock the driveway, unlock gates, and note if the car is in a tight garage or on a slope.
Insurance and notifications
Wait until the vehicle has been collected and the ownership transfer is complete, then cancel insurance and notify your DMV as your state requires. Cancelling too early can create gaps you do not want.
